Campus Housing

Do the new Heritage Halls buildings (which replaced the old Deseret Tower) provide housing for couples?

The new Heritage Halls buildings are used for family groups of four to six related family members, not for couples' housing.
Is campus housing available for couples?

BYU no longer has couples' housing units for Education Week. The facilities at Helaman Halls cannot house both genders in the same building because they have only one restroom per wing or have shared bathrooms between rooms. Other than those who qualify for a family housing unit in Heritage Halls, men and women are housed in separate buildings and should apply for either men's or women's housing. If this arrangement does not work for your particular circumstance, please make other lodging arrangements (hotel, motel, etc.).
May my children stay in campus housing?

A parent or legal guardian must accompany youth who are under the age of 18. No one under age 14 as of December 31 of the program year is permitted in Education Week housing.
I registered for campus housing. When may I check in?

How many people do I need to have in my family group to qualify for family housing?

You must have at least least four but no more than six related family members. All must be at least age 14 by December 31 of the program year and be registered for Education Week campus housing.
May I stay in a campus housing unit by myself?

So we can provide housing for the maximum number of people, participants may not reserve a single room. If you do not request a roommate by the time assignments are made a roommate will be assigned to share the room.
Do campus housing buildings have elevators?

All Heritage Halls buildings have an elevator. Only one building in Helaman Halls has an elevator.
Do campus housing units have refrigerators?

Mini-refrigerators are standard in Helaman Halls housing. Refrigerators are not available in Heritage Halls.
Do campus housing units have Wi-Fi?

Wi-Fi is generally available in the common areas of campus housing units.
Do campus housing units have kitchens?

No. Kitchens are not available for Education Week participants.
Do I need to bring my own bed and bath linens?

Campus housing provides twin bed sheets, pillow, pillowcase, blanket, bath towel, wash cloth, and small bar of soap. These items are placed in the room before you arrive.
When do I receive my housing assignment?

Individuals who purchase campus housing will receive an assignment by email the second week in August.
What if I have a concern about the housing assignment I received?

Please send an email to the Education Week Office at educationweek@byu.edu with questions or concerns.
 

Registration

May I give my Education Week name badge to someone else?

No. The name badge proves you are registered in the program. Name badges are nontransferable. Education Week is an educational program with nearly 20,000 participants, and we need to know who is registered and attending the program. Making our badges nontransferable is the best way for us to account for our participants. Please do not give your name badge to someone else. If you cannot attend, please request a refund by the deadline (processing fees apply). If you would like to purchase a name badge for someone else, please register that person under his or her own name.
Will my name badge be mailed to me?

If you register by the Monday preceeding the program, a name badge will be mailed to your address. If you register after that day, your name badge will be held at Will-Call. Early Will-Call is available the week preceding Education Week in the lobby of the BYU Conference Center. Please see the Registration page for Will-Call times, dates, and locations.

Where can I register during Education Week?

The week of the program, at-the-door registration is open on Monday from 7:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the northeast concourse of the Marriott Center and in the Wilkinson Student Center Garden Court. It continues Tuesday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Wilkinson Center, and 7:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Marriott Center. 
My name is misspelled on my name badge. How do I get it corrected?

Bring your name badge to the information table in the WSC Garden Court, and we will replace it.
When do I register for the Youth Dance?

Youth dance registration is no longer required. Youth may attend the dance without an additional fee by simply wearing their personal Education Week name badge.
What if I lose my name badge?

A replacement badge can be obtained at any registration area.
How old do you have to be to attend Education Week?

Participants must be at least 14 years of age by December 31 of the program year.
My youth turns 14 a week after December 31. May he/she still attend?

Unfortunately, we do not make exceptions to the age requirement. Youth must be age 14 by the last day of the program year.

Class Schedule Booklet

When will my class schedule booklet be mailed?

Class schedules usually are mailed by the second week of July.
How long does it take for my class schedule to arrive?

Class schedule booklets are mailed bulk rate and generally arrive in three to ten business days.
Can I view the schedule online?

Yes. The class schedule is usually available for online viewing by the first week in July.
How may I be included in the mailing list for next year?

If you registered for Education Week in the past three years, you are included in our mailings. Otherwise, add your name to the mailing list or call 801-422-6214.
 

Miscellaneous

Why can't we bring babies and other young children?

We understand, as you do, that many people schedule their entire year's vacation around Education Week. They spend their savings and often travel hundreds or thousands of miles to attend. Because of such sacrifices, we feel a responsibility to provide an appropriate educational environment. We enforce the policy of no children in the classrooms because babies and other young children may easily become disinterested and disruptive. For these reasons, we instruct the room hosts/hostesses to not admit young children or individuals with babies to the classrooms.

Having a minimum age for attendance reflects policies already in place for other large, formal gatherings such as general conference for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints; the policy is also similar to those of fine art performances and other conferences and events where participants pay to attend, including BYU Women's Conference. Additionally, staying at BYU residence halls during BYU Education Week is limited to participants ages 14 and older.

Other campus spaces are available for family members and friends who take turns either watching a child or going to sessions. These spaces include BYU campus dining and lounging areas, as well as a family playroom on the main floor of the library. Mother’s rooms and changing stations are also available in buildings across campus.
Are firearms or other weapons permitted on campus?

Firearms and weapons are not permitted, concealed or not concealed, with or without a concealed weapon permit, while upon properties owned or controlled by the University (including on-campus housing), without specific written permission from the BYU Chief of University Police. Law enforcement officers certified by the state of Utah, federal law enforcement officers, and security officers for armored vehicle services contracted with the university when on official duties, may carry a firearm on campus.
 

Classes and Classrooms

After I register for the program, do I need to sign up for specific classes?

You do not need to sign up for individual classes. Seating in all classes is on a first-come, first-served basis. Once you are registered for the program, you are welcome to attend any class of your choosing. You may change classes each hour or simply stay in a particular classroom for multiple presentations.
Why can't I record during class?

There are a number of issues related to copyright law. While the presenter has some latitude to show copyrighted material in a face-to-face classroom situation, participants creating an electronic copy may be breaking the law. Of course, note-taking is allowed and encouraged.
Why can't I eat or drink in class (other than in the Marriott Center)?

The majority of your fellow students have planned their mealtimes so that they may enjoy the lecture with no distractions. Also, there is not enough time between classes or enough custodial staff to clean up after each class. The exception is the Marriott Center, where ample seating and support are available—but even there, please be considerate of others!
What if the class I've chosen is full?

We often have overflow rooms to accommodate those who cannot find a seat in the classroom. If this isn't the case, we suggest that you attend another class. Numerous Education Week participants have reported experiences similar to the following: "When I couldn't get in the class I wanted, I went into a class close by that had room. I found it to be just as exciting and informative as my first choice. Every class was good." You may discover new areas of interest.
How much does it cost to attend and receive credit for the Continuing Legal Education (CLE) classes?

To attend Continuing Legal Education classes, participants must register and pay tuition for the regular Education Week program. Attorneys seeking CLE credit can pay the additional fee for the week in advance or at the door of 214 Crabtree Building.
Where may I find information about the CLE classes?

Information about Continuing Legal Education classes may be found on the CLE page and also in the class schedule booklet, usually available the first or second week of July.
